Why grind a stump
- You can mow straight over the spot.
- A rotting stump draws termites, carpenter ants and fungus close to the house.
- Pine stumps can take many years to rot away on their own.
- You want grass, a garden or a driveway where the tree was.
- It is a trip hazard, especially when the grass grows up around it.
What you are left with
The grinding leaves a pile of wood chips and soil. You can rake it into the hole as fill and mulch, or have it spread or moved. One customer wrote that the crew was “mindful of cleanup, ensuring the mulch was placed neatly in an out-of-the-way spot and flattened out.” The chips settle over a few months; topsoil and seed finish it.

What does stump grinding cost?
Price comes down to how many stumps, how wide each one is at the ground, how much root shows above the soil, and whether the grinder can drive right up to it. Stumps ground the same day as the removal cost less than a separate trip. The estimate is free.
